The following information has been prepared to assist you with your coverage of the upcoming OHSAA ice hockey state tournament. Please contact Tim Stried (tstried@ohsaa.org or 614-267-2502, ext. 124) at the OHSAA office should you have additional questions. Previews and additional information will be posted on the OHSAA web site the week of each state tournament.

STATE TOURNAMENT

DATES: Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11

LOCATION: Nationwide Arena (200 W. Nationwide Boulevard, Columbus)

YOUR HOSTS: The state tournament manager at Nationwide Arena is Joel Siegman (614-246-4625). Steve Neil is the OHSAA assistant commissioner who oversees ice hockey. Please contact Tim Stried regarding media credentials (see below).

TIMES AND FORMAT:

Saturday, March 13 - Semifinals
Semifinal #1 - 12:00 noon, Kent District Winner vs. Brooklyn District Winner
Semifinal #2 - 3:00 p.m., Sylvania Winner vs. Columbus District Winner

Sunday, March 14 – Finals at 11:00 a.m.

CREDENTIAL REQUESTS:
Fax your request form to Tim Stried at the OHSAA office (614-267-1677) as soon as you know you will be covering the state tournament. The deadline to submit credential application requests is noon Thursday, March 8 at Noon.

CREDENTIAL CONFIRMATION: The OHSAA will send a confirmation email to those media requesting state tournament credentials and will post a list on its web site of those media members who have been approved for credentials.

PARKING: There is no designated media parking area and there are no media parking passes. A map of all parking garages in the area is available on the Columbus Blue Jackets’ web site (www.nationwidearena.com/directions/parking.html). Additional information will be included in the confirmation email.

CREDENTIAL PICK UP: Credentials will be held at the media entrance at Nationwide Arena, which is located at the Tower Entrance on the south side of the arena at the corner of Nationwide Blvd. and Front Street (across from Mongolian BBQ).

WORK AREA: Media members are permitted to remain in the press box after each contest to write and file stories.

WIRELESS: Wireless access is available throughout the arena. Telephones will be provided for collect, credit card or toll-free calls only. Use is on a first-come, first-served basis.

BROADCAST INFORMATION: There is a $60 OHSAA rights fee charge for radio stations to broadcast the games. Stations interested in broadcasting must request credentials through the OHSAA and also contact Russ Mollohan with the Blue Jackets (614-246-4304) to review setup and details. SportsTime Ohio will televise the finals. Other stations may televise the state semifinals on a tape-delayed basis subject to OHSAA fees. There may be additional fees assessed by the arena (park and power fees and transmission fees). If approved by the OHSAA, the OHSAA will issue credentials, and Russ Mollohan must be contacted to review setup and details.

PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE: Rather than sending a stringer, media outlets needing photographs from a state tournament are encouraged to contact the OHSAA’s official photographer, Impact Action Sports Photography. Their website is www.impactactionphotos.com (click on the media request form). The contacts are Joe Maiorana (photojoe2707@yahoo.com) and Ben Barnes (barnziben@gmail.com). Coaches, school staff, freelance pho­tographers and parents of competitors are not permitted to receive media credentials. Media outlets found to be in violation are subject to reduced access at future OHSAA state tournaments.
