Golden Megaphone - 2017-18

2017-18 Contest Rules

This year, the OHSAA will host the third annual Battle for the Golden Megaphone contest. After its huge success last year, we are excited for this year’s competition to be even bigger and better! The Battle for the Golden Megaphone’s goal is to find the best student sections in the state of Ohio. The winner of the contest will receive a banner, recognition by OHSAA at the state boys basketball tournament and an award for its athletic department.

Here is how your school can compete:
  • Take a picture or short video of your student section at a boys or girls basketball game.
  • Tweet or Instagram the picture/video from your official school account, tagging @OHSAASports. (We will not accept submissions from personal accounts!)
  • In the post, use hashtag “#GoldenMegaphone.” Encourage your students to like, retweet or favorite the post!
If you have any questions about the contest, how to compete, or want to know more, please email Jerry Snodgrass at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing the submissions and finding out who has the best student section in the state!

Important Dates

On Dec. 19, Jan. 9, Jan. 20, Jan. 30 and Feb. 20, the OHSAA will select several finalists per “submission period.” If your school is not picked as a finalist during one of the periods, keep submitting throughout the season! The OHSAA staff will visit one home game of each of the finalists to see the student sections live in action.

Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 will be a statewide Military Appreciation Night, as we ask all schools hosting games that night to be a part of this special event. Here's how you and your school can make the night a success:
  • Free Entry for Military
  • Honor Any Active Military and Veterans
  • Press Release to Local News
  • Dance/Band Performance
  • Honorary Captain
  • BE CREATIVE!
Submit your Military Appreciation Night videos/pictures with the hashtags #GoldenMegaphone & #OhioStrong2018.
