Troy Wins First Girls Bowling State Title; Whitehall-Yearling Sophomore Madison Stiffler Sets Division I Three-Game Series and Single Game State Records

COLUMBUS, Ohio � Troy defeated defending state champion Beavercreek 3-1 (255-210-199-204 to 164-223-196-202) in the state final match to win its first state title at the 2016 OHSAA Division I girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl on Saturday.

Troy entered championship round play as the three seed and advanced to the state final match through a 3-1 (201-234-165-180 to 210-168-151-160) win against North Olmsted and a 3-1 (152-233-200-214 to 161-146-176-138) victory over second-seeded Mentor.

Beavercreek finishes as state runner-up for the first time in school history and has earned Division I girls state champion and state runner-up honors the last two years.

Whitehall-Yearling sophomore Madison Stiffler set the OHSAA Division I girls bowling three-game series score record and earned individual state champion honors with a 719 (259-215-245). The previous record was a 670, set in 2014 by Centerville�s Megan Cook.

Stiffler also set the Division I girls bowling state record for best single game with a 259. She is the first bowler from Whitehall-Yearling to win an individual state title and finished ninth at the Division I girls bowling state tournament last season (three-game score of 586).

 

Huber Heights Wayne Captures First Boys Bowling State Title; Xenia�s Evan Adkins Sets State Records

COLUMBUS, Ohio � Huber Heights Wayne won its first boys bowling state championship and Xenia junior Evan Adkins set new state tournament records for highest three-game series score (805) and highest single game score (296) at the 2016 OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl on Friday.

 

Wayne was victorious in the state final match, 3-1, against Wapakoneta (215-187-226-225 to 137-191-201-223). Wayne earned state runner-up honors last season after qualifying for the boys bowling state tournament for just the second time.

 

Wayne entered the championship round as the four seed and defeated Boardman 3-1 (216-186-220-248 to 177-245-175-183) in the quarterfinals and advanced to the state championship match by way of a 3-0 semifinal win over Centerville (231-247-192 to 218-174-178).

 

Wapakoneta earned a state runner-up finish for the second time and was making its fifth appearance at the boys bowling state tournament.

 

Xenia junior Evan Adkins� Division I boys bowling state tournament record three-game score of 805 (296-267-242) earned individual state champion honors. The previous record was 709, set by Clayton Northmont�s Steve Kocher in 2014. Adkins also set the state tournament record for highest single game score with a 296, breaking his previous record of 278 set in 2014. Adkins finished as state runner-up in that year.

 

The 2016 OHSAA bowling state tournaments wrap up tomorrow at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl with the Division I girls state tournament. Qualifying round play begins at 10:30 a.m.

 

 

 

Mechanicsburg Wins Second Girls Bowling State Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio � Mechanicsburg defeated Napoleon 3-1 (168-190-162-179 to 162-184-208-173) in the 2016 OHSAA Division II girls bowling state championship match to capture its second girls bowling state title Saturday at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl.

 

Mechanicsburg was making its third appearance at the state tournament and earns its second state title in the past three years with the victory.

 

Mechanicsburg entered the championship round as the No. 4 seed and advanced to the state semifinals through a 3-0 (203-182-165 to 176-168-157) quarterfinal victory over Fairport Harding.

 

Trailing 2-1 against defending state champion and top seeded Coldwater in the semifinals, Mechanicsburg outscored Coldwater 184-177 and 214-192 in the final two games to win a hard fought, five-game match, 3-2 (152-198-205-184-214 to 180-188-220-177-192).

 

Napoleon entered the championship round as the No. 6 seed and earned its second-consecutive girls bowling state runner-up award in its third straight appearance at the state tournament. Napoleon advanced by way of a 3-0 (187-224-204 to 186-179-194) state quarterfinal victory against Springfield Northwestern and a 3-0 (168-171-169 to 138-166-137) semifinal win over Versailles.

 

Springfield Kenton Ridge junior Jessica Pitt captured individual state champion honors with a Division II girls state tournament record three-game series score of 712 (247-257-208). The previous record was 678, set by Bryan�s Danika Hickey last year. Norton junior Emily Krosnick earned individual state runner-up honors with a three-game score of 698 (207-257-234).

 

The 2016 Division I boys and girls bowling state tournaments are slated for next Friday and Saturday, March 4 & 5, with Division I boys taking the lanes on Friday and Division I girls rounding out the state bowling tournaments on Saturday.

 

 

Urbana Takes Home First Boys Bowling State Championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio � Urbana defeated Coldwater 3-1 (196-39-236-184-222 to 196-28-257-174-203) in the 2016 OHSAA Division II boys bowling state tournament championship match to earn its first boys bowling state title in school history at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl on Friday.

After a 196-196 tie with Coldwater in the first game of the state final match, Urbana proceeded to win the roll-off 39-28 to take the first baker game. Coldwater took game two 257-236, but Urbana won the final two games 184-174 and 222-203 to take the state title.

Urbana was making its third appearance at the Division II boys bowling state tournament, qualifying in 2014 and 2015 but failing to reach the championship round in both years. Urbana entered the championship round as the No. 3 seed after qualifying with a team total of 3,769 and defeated Akron Coventry 3-0 (215-228-241 to 213-204-205) in the quarterfinal round and Peninsula Woodridge 3-1 (192-187-247-234 to 171-188-207-203) in the semifinals.

Coldwater was making its sixth appearance in the state tournament in the last seven years and boasts three state titles overall (2007, 2012 and 2015).

Union City Mississinawa Valley senior Joe Teeter took home individual state champion honors with a total score of 748 (216-276-256). Teeter�s three-game series score of 748 is a Division II boys state tournament record and ranks second all-time in OHSAA boys bowling state tournament history across all divisions.

Springfield Kenton Ridge senior Matt McKee and Hubbard junior Caleb Johnson each bowled single game scores of 278, setting a new Division II boys bowling state tournament record for highest single game.

Springfield Shawnee senior Stephen Jackson earned state runner-up honors with a total three-game score of 721 (258-245-218).
