Championship Recap
The action picked up late in the game and Cincinnati Madeira (21-0-3) ultimately defeated Hathaway Brown 2-1 in overtime to capture the Div. II girls state soccer championship Saturday at Columbus Crew Stadium.

In a game that was heavily predicated by defense on both sides, the first shot on goal was recorded in the 63rd minute by Madeira. Hathaway Brown (13-10-1) responded by blazing down the field and quickly tallying the games first goal, as junior Kate Dolansky put the ball in the back of the net in the 64th minute.

Madeira answered as senior Cari Rusk deflected the ball off her body and into the goal in the 71st minute to tie the game 1-1.

In overtime, Madeira senior Katie Landgrebe gathered a header, scooted past a defender and slipped the ball to the right of the Hathaway Brown goalkeeper in the 89th minute.

The win earned Madeira its first girls state soccer championship in school history. It was the Amazons third appearance in the state tournament, having reached the state semifinals in 2008 and 2007.
