August 2012 Officer Meeting:

Officers of the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association (President Tim Rogers, First Vice President Randy Heath, Second Vice President Eric Frantz, Treasurer Todd Stumpf and Secretary Rob McCurdy) met with Tim Stried of the Ohio High School Athletic Association on Aug. 17 to discuss the future of the organization. Planning Meeting – Sept. 14, 2011, OHSAA Office

Randy Heath, acting President of the OPSWA, and Tim Stried, OHSAA Director of Information Services, organized a meeting to discuss the future and revival of the OPSWA. Approximately 20 sportswriters from around the state attended, including several past presidents and members of the OPSWA Hall of Fame. Heath, who has been involved with the OPSWA since its inception in 1972, provided a history of the organization before discussion began on how to revitalize this group.

Next Meeting

The last annual statewide meeting was held April 17, 2013 at the OHSAA office in Columbus. The next Officer's meeting will be in August 2013, with the exact date still TBD.

 

Next Meeting Agenda

-Proposal for Hall of Fame selection committee and nominating process

 

-Organize specific process for submitting material for yearly contests and clarify judging process

 

-Update district media directories

 

-OPSWA Facebook page discussion

 

-Discuss recognizing district-level awards if the writing contest reaches a certain number of entries

 

-Emphasize membership growth and encourage members to promote the OPSWA during district meetings for AP All-Ohio teams, etc.
