Six Ottawa-Glandorf
Students Attend NFHS Student Leadership Conference
Four-day event brought students
together from 33 states and Canada

COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Six student-athletes from Ottawa-Glandorf High School joined 300
other student delegates from across the nation and Canada in
Indianapolis July 16-19 for the 2009 National Student Leadership
Conference held by the National Federation of State High School
Associations (NFHS).
Accompanied by
OHSAA Assistant Commissioner Roxanne Price and Ottawa-Glandorf
principal and OHSAA Northwest District Board member Bill Hanna, the
students participated in a variety of activities designed to discuss
contemporary issues in education-based athletics and promote the
values of respect, sportsmanship, teamwork, healthy lifestyles and
community service. The group also participated in a community
service project, rehabbing athletic facilities at a local school in
Indianapolis.
“This conference is
a tremendous opportunity for these young students to develop their
leadership skills in a positive manner,” said OHSAA Commissioner
Daniel B. Ross. “Interacting with students from all over the country
gives them a unique perspective to bring back to their school and
their community. The skills and values promoted at the conference
are beneficial not only in their high school careers but for a
lifetime.”
The conference
featured motivational speakers Harvey Alston and Stephen Bargatze as
well as a leadership-themed question and answer session with
Olympians DeDee Nathan and Samantha Peszek.
