Umpiring Clinic Set for Westerville South
Columbus, Ohio --
The HUB of Ohio
Softball Umpires Association will host a three-person umpiring
clinic on Sunday, May 18 at Westerville South High School's varsity
Every umpire in Ohio who has been assigned a regional game, along
with all Central District umpires assigned district games, is being
invited to attend and learn more about the three-person scheme.
Often times, umpires receive a district assignment - which in the
Central District is a three-person system - and have never worked
that system. This clinic provides an opportunity to pick up the
mechanics of the system. Other districts around the state do not use
three umpires and have umpires who have not had three-person
experience assigned to regional games.
Jim Wharton, the OHSAA state softball tournament umpire-in-chief,
will coordinate and lead the clinic. Clinicians lined up have years
of experience and vast knowledge of three-person mechanics, be it at
the high school, ASA or collegiate level.
The clinic, scheduled to run from 1-4 p.m., is free. All that is
being asked is that you register in advance so that we have an idea
of numbers and have the the proper ratio of clinicians/students.
Westerville South High School is located at 303 S. Otterbein Ave.,
Westerville, for those wishing to use MapQuest. Please e-mail your
'reservation' to HUB secretary Larry Black at
