Championships Recap
COLUMBUS, Ohio— The
boys and girls state bowling tournaments, wrapped up Saturday night at
Wayne’s Webb Columbus Bowl. In the girl’s tournament, the team title
belonged to St. Marys Memorial, with top individual honors going to
senior Crystal Boyer from Coldwater. The boy’s championship trophy was
won by Troy, with junior Corey Bayus from Struthers claiming the
individual honors.
In the girls team championship St. Marys defeated Hubbard in
a best of five matches three to one. The Roughriders (149-149-176-160)
finished strong to outlast Hubbard winning their first team bowling
state championship.
Girl’s individual champion Boyer (233-206-222) bowled well
enough to win top honors by more than 20 pins over her nearest
competitor.
The boy’s team championship took all five games for Troy to
finish on top. The Trojans posted scores of 206-168-176-187-215 to
defeat Wapakoneta winning their first team bowling state championship.
Troy claimed the championship after surviving a roll-off in the first
round against Massillon Perry. The state championship is the first
for Troy high school in any OHSAA boys or girls tournament.
Boy’s individual champion Bayus (212-227-258) took
individuals honors handily winning by 23 pins.
