Raiders Win Second State Title

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � On a cold, windy day, Shaker Heights senior Kasidy Anderson scored the game-winning goal to give the Raiders a 1-0 win over Gahanna Columbus Academy Saturday in the 2014 OHSAA field hockey state championship game at Upper Arlington High School.

The state title is the second for Shaker Heights (9-12). The Raiders last advanced to the championship game in 1995, and their only other state title coming in 1991. Two-time defending state champion Columbus Academy is state runner-up for the fifth time and has now made 19 state semifinal appearances. The Vikings finish the season 17-3-1.

Shaker Heights 2, Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 1



UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � Shaker Heights needed overtime to defeat Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 2-1 in the first semifinal game of the 2014 OHSAA state field hockey tournament Friday afternoon at Upper Arlington High School. Shaker Heights will play in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Columbus Bishop Watterson and Gahanna Columbus Academy. The Raiders (8-12-0) last played in the state final in 1995 and will look to secure their second state title. Mount Notre Dame, making its sixth state semifinal appearance, finishes its season 14-6-0.

UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio � Gahanna Columbus Academy defeated Columbus Bishop Watterson 1-0 in the second semifinal game of the 2014 OHSAA state field hockey tournament Friday at Upper Arlington High School. Gahanna Columbus Academy (17-2-1) will play in the championship game Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Shaker Heights. The Vikings are looking to win their eleventh OHSAA field hockey state championship, with their most recent title coming in 2013 after defeating Thomas Worthington in overtime. Bishop Watterson, which was making its eleventh state tournament appearance since 1995, finished the year 15-4-1.
