Thomas Worthington Takes Home Fourth State Title

Thomas Worthington defeated Hudson 3-0 in the 2015 OHSAA field hockey state championship game Saturday at Upper Arlington High School.

The state title is the fourth for Thomas Worthington (20-0-1), with their last title coming in 2011 (also in 2007 and 1988). The Cardinals now have a one-title lead over Hudson, which has won three. Thomas Worthington posted nine shots on goal compared to none for Hudson, and also led in penalty corners 9-2.

Thomas Worthington also defeated Hudson during the 2015 regular season, 1-0, and posted shutout victories in 10 of its 20 victories this season. Hudson, which had previously won state titles in 1996, 1986, and 1984, finished the season 17-4-0.

Thomas Worthington defeated Cincinnati Ursuline Academy 3-0 in the first semifinal game of the 2015 OHSAA state field hockey tournament Friday afternoon at Upper Arlington High School.

Thomas Worthington will play in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Gahanna Columbus Academy and Hudson. The Cardinals (19-0-1) are looking to secure their fourth state championship, with their most recent title coming in 2011. Cincinnati Ursuline Academy, making its fourth state tournament appearance, finishes its season 12-8-0.

Hudson needed overtime to defeat Gahanna Columbus Academy 1-0 with a penalty stroke in overtime on Friday afternoon in the second semifinal game of the 2015 OHSAA state field hockey tournament at Upper Arlington High School.

Hudson will play in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Worthington Thomas Worthington. The Explorers (17-3-1) last won a state title in 1996 and look to secure their fourth championship in school history. Gahanna Columbus Academy, which was making its 20th state tournament appearance, finishes its season 17-2-1.
