Sandusky Perkins Holds Off Dayton Chaminade Julienne to Win First State Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio -
The 2012 OHSAA girls Division II state golf tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at The Ohio State University Gray Course (Par 70, 5,560 yards). Sandusky Perkins took home its schools first state title by defeating defending state champion Dayton Chaminade Julienne by eight strokes with a two-day score of 348-339-687.

Perkins was led by individual medalist Maddy Mullins (72-77-149) and junior Summer Seitz (88-80-168). The Pirates held a two stroke lead over Williamsport Westfall at the end of day one and fought off a valiant effort by Chaminade Julienne, which improved its day two score by 11 stokes to finish with a 353-342-695. Williamsport Westfall (706), Gates Mills Hawken (712) and Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (716) rounded out the top five.

Dayton Miami Valley School junior Sarah Kolodzik improved on her 2011 fourth place finish to claim the 2012 runner-up medal with a two day score of 76-75-151.

Dayton Oakwood Claims Fourth State Golf Title with 19 Stroke Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio -
The 2012 OHSAA boys Division II state golf tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course (Par 71 � 7,043 yards). Dayton Oakwood claimed a 17 stoke lead at the end of day one and never looked back as the Lumberjacks defeated runner-up Canton Central Catholic by 19 strokes with a two day score of 320-319-639. Their 19 stoke win is the second largest margin of victory in boys Division II golf state tournament history.

Canton Central Catholic took home the runner-up trophy for the second consecutive year with a two day score of 343-315-658. Chagrin Falls (671), Kettering Archbishop Alter (673) and St. Clairsville (679) rounded out the top five.

Cameron Willis (Fr., Eaton) started out his high school career with an individual medalist performance, posting a 75-76-151. Chesapeake�s Nick Duffield and Dayton Oakwood�s Tripp French were the co-individual runner-ups, both posting a 77-80-157.

Ashland Crestview Claims First Boys State Golf Championship
Gilmour Academy�s Andrew Bieber becomes 16th two-time medalist
 

SUNBURY, Ohio � The 2012 OHSAA boys Division III state golf tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at NorthStar Golf Resort (Par 72, 7,001 yards) in Sunbury. Ashland Crestview held off defending champion Columbus Wellington School and Gahanna Columbus Academy to win its first boys golf state championship.

 

The Crestview team shot a consistent, 323-323 � 646, over two days to top the field of competitors. The Cougars were led junior Josh Brooks, 77-74 � 151 and sophomore Bryce Lutz, 75-78 � 153.

 

Columbus Wellington�s bid for back-to-back championships came up short by five strokes, coming in a tie for second with Gahanna Columbus Academy. The Jaguars were led by senior Quinten Hendricks, 80-79 � 159 and sophomore Justin Perdue, 80-79 � 159. Columbus Academy was led by sophomore Nabeel Khan who shot 85-76 � 161.

 

Gates Mills Gilmour Academy senior Andrew Bieber claimed medalist honors for the second year in a row. Bieber shot an impressive even-par score over two days, posting rounds of 73-71 � 144. By earning the medalist honors, Bieber became only the 16th golfer in boys state tournament history to medal twice or more. He also makes Gilmour Academy the first school to have multiple two-time medalists. Bieber�s former teammate Alex Andrews accomplished the feat in 2009 and 2010.

 

Josh Brooks of Crestview and Grove City Christian School junior Cameron Michalak both earned runner-up medalist by shooting a two-day score of 151.

Dublin Jerome Wins Second Consecutive State Title
Celtics win by one stroke over runner-up Medina Highland
 

COLUMBUS, Ohio � Dublin Jerome won the 2012 OHSAA girls Division I state golf tournament by a stroke over Medina Highland on the Gray Course (Par 70, approximately 5,800 yards) at The Ohio University State Golf Club in Columbus to win its second consecutive state championship.
 

Despite Highland, 311-319-630, getting the top performance of the weekend from senior Jessica Porvasnik, Jerome was able to fend off the Hornets completing the weekend sweep for Dublin Jerome (313-316-629). The boys won their fifth state championship by a stroke over Centerville.
 

It marks the third time Jerome has swept the girls and boys Division I golf state championships, the only school to have done so. The Celtics accomplished the feat in 2005, 2011 and 2012.
 

The Celtic girls were led by junior Lexie Toth, 71-78-149 and sophomore Maite Erana, 76-76-152.
Highland�s Porvasnik earned the medalist honors shooting even par, 68-72-140. Her first day 68 is the lowest one-round score in the girls state tournament history.

Dublin Jerome Wins Back-to-Back State Golf Championships
Celtics win by one stroke over runner-up Centerville
 

COLUMBUS, Ohio � Dublin Jerome won the 2012 OHSAA boys Division I state golf tournament by a stroke over Centerville to win its second-consecutive state championship.
 

The Scarlet Course (Par 71, approximately 7,115 yards) at The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus provided a tough test throughout the weekend with golfers facing wet fairways and higher winds on Saturday.
 

With the tournament winding down and every stroke becoming crucial, Jerome relied on its senior golfers Mert Selamet, 73-80-153 and Chad Howard, 79-78-157 to win it fifth overall golf state championship. The 2012 title marks the second time the Celtics, 307-323-630, have won back-to-back state championships. They had previously done so in 2004 and 2005.
 

The win also completed a weekend sweep for Jerome, with the girls winning their third state championship. It marks the third time Jerome has swept the Division I golf state championships, the only school to have done so. The Celtics accomplished the feat in 2005, 2011 and 2012.
 

Centerville came up one stroke short of winning its first state championship. The Elks were led by seniors Ryan Wenzler, 75-79-154 and Caleb Wolters, 76-81-157.
 

Dublin Coffman junior Nick Sparling earned the medalist honors shooting 74-71-145. Sparling�s score of 71 on Saturday was the lowest round of the two-day tournament.
