2011 OHSAA Boys State Soccer Preview

The 2011 OHSAA boys state soccer semifinal matchups are set for November 8th, as four teams in three divisions look to advance to Columbus’ Crew Stadium, to claim to be Ohio’s best and win a state championship.

In Division I returning to the semifinals is 2010 champion Cleveland St. Ignatius (20-1-0) who will play Copley (15-2-4). Copley has outscored its opponents 13-5 during its four games in the tournament. St. Ignatius’ lone loss of the year was a 2-0 decision against Louisville St. Xavier (KY) in the sixth game of the season. The Wildcats have only allowed nine goals against them all season. The other half of the bracket pits Olentangy Liberty (15-2-3) versus Beavercreek (21-0-1). Liberty made the semifinals after beating Dublin Coffman 3-1 in the regional final. Beavercreek is the only undefeated team in Division I.

The Division II semifinals feature the 2010 runner-up Richfield Revere (17-0-4) against Lexington (14-6-1). Revere defeated Marlington 2-1 to advance while Lexington defeated Ottawa-Glandorf by the same score. Lexington makes it to semifinals after winning twice in overtime during its tournament run. Columbus St. Francis DeSales (13-6-2) will take on 2010 champion Dayton Carroll (21-0-0) in the other semifinal matchup. Carroll has only allowed 11 goals in its 21 games played.

In the Division III semifinals Gates Mills Hawken (16-4-0) meets Mansfield Christian (15-2-3) in one matchup. Hawken defeated Doylestown Chippewa 3-0 in the regional final to advance while Mansfield Christian defeated Toledo Ottawa Hills 2-1 to advance. Mansfield Christian had previously lost to Ottawa Hills 4-1 in a regular season game. In the other semifinal matchup Worthington Christian (16-4-1) returns to the semifinals for its third straight year. The Warriors finished as runners-up in 2010 after claiming the 2009 championship. They will take on one-loss Cincinnati Madeira (19-1-0) who defeated Dayton Christian 4-2 to advance to the semifinals.
