Year of the Three-Peat?
Heavy hitters look to continue winning ways

COLUMBUS, Ohio The OHSAA boys and girls Division I golf championships return to The Ohio State Universitys Scarlet and Gray courses this weekend. The tournament tees off Friday, October 22 and concludes Saturday, October 23 when team champions and individual medalists will be crowned.

At the Gray course (Par 70, 5,560 yards) six of the top 10 girls Division I teams return from last years tournament, including state champion Mason and runner-up West Chester Lakota West. Mason is looking to become the first girls team to win the state championship three years in a row.

A new individual champion will be determined in 2010, with the previous years winner Tiana Jones (Alliance) having graduated. Competing for the medalist award with the rest of the field are nine of the top 20 individuals from 2009.

Twelve teams and 72 individuals will compete in boys Division I at the Scarlet Course (Par 71, 7,043 yards). Returning state champion Columbus St. Charles is looking for its second state title. Standing in the Cardinals way are seven of the top 10 returning teams from 2009, including runner-up Cincinnati St. Xavier.

Korey Ward (Sr., West Chester Lakota West) looks to become the third Ohio golfer to win three individual medalist awards at the state tournament. Ward won his first medal in 2008, shooting a two-day total of 151, and in 2009 won shooting 74 in a rain-shortened tournament.

Admission for the tournament is $9 and golfers tee off at 9:00 A.M. at both locations. For daily results log on to ohsaa.org.
