Warren Champion captures first boys
bowling state championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The eighth annual girls and boys state bowling
tournaments began Friday at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl. This year, for
the first time in the eight year history of the tournament, champions
are being crowned in two divisions. The boys Division II championship
began the state bowling tournament on Friday. Warren Champion defeated
Struthers in the championship match to capture its school�s first boys
bowling state championship with scores of 153-173-234-175-170.
Coldwater, the 2012 boys bowling state champion, finished third while
fellow Midwest Athletic Conference member Versailles finished fourth.
Struthers senior Dan Diloreto earned the individual championship by
posting a total score of 678 and game scores of 243-201-234. He is the
second individual champion from Struthers since 2011. Versailles senior
Michael Davidson, the 2013 boys individual champion, finished ninth.
Blake Spangler of Coldwater bowled the high single game individual score
for the tournament with a 267.
The girls Division II championship will be held on Saturday, March 1
while the boys Division I tournament will be on Friday, March 7. The
girls Division I championship will conclude the bowling tournaments on
Saturday, March 8.
Urbana senior makes individual history; Mechanicsburg wins first
state championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio- A perfect game of 300
was achieved by Urbana senior Taylor Bodey and Mechanicsburg took home
the first Division II girls state bowling championship at the 2014 OHSAA
Division II girls state bowling tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl
on Saturday.
Bodey�s three game total score was a 658 and in game three she bowled a
300, becoming the first bowler in OHSAA state tournament history to
accomplish a perfect game and the fifth girl to do so in OHSAA girls
bowling history. Her scores of 191-167-300 propelled her to win the
girls bowling Division II individual championship. She is the first
girls state individual champion from Urbana. Springfield Kenton Ridge
sophomore Alyx Kearney finished a close second with a total score of 650
and individual scores of 223-201-226.
In the team championship, Mechanicsburg defeated two-time defending
champion Coldwater to capture its school�s first girls state bowling
championship and also its first team state championship as a school.
Mechanicsburg defeated top seed Urbana in three games in the semifinals
with scores of 173-175-172 to Urbana�s 172-166-143, and were victorious
against fourth seeded Napoleon in the quarterfinals. Coldwater made its
third straight appearance in the state championship, the only school
other than Hubbard to do so in the girls state bowling tournament.
The boys Division I state bowling tournament will be held on Friday,
March 7 and the girls Division I state bowling tournament on Saturday,
March 8 at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl.

Wapakoneta wins first team
championship as a school in Division I boys bowling
COLUMBUS, Ohio- Wapakoneta defeated Olmsted Falls 3-1 to
claim its first boys bowling state championship and first team
championship as a school on Friday, March 7 at Wayne Webb�s
Columbus Bowl. In 2011, Wapakoneta finished as boys runner-up to
Troy, but used championship round scores of 154-182-175-169 to
finish as champions in 2014.
In
the first round, Wapakoneta used scores of 159-189-195-200 to
win 3-1 against 2013 boys bowling state runner-up Kettering
Fairmont. After defeating Brunswick 3-1 in the semifinals,
Wapakoneta defeated eighth-seeded Olmsted Falls 3-1. Olmsted
Falls defeated top seeded Clayton Northmont in the first round
3-2 (205-201-198-170-186) and Beavercreek 3-2
(192-152-181-186-160) in the semifinals. Olmsted Falls finishes
as boys bowling state runner-up for the first time.
Clayton Northmont freshman Steve Kocher was named 2014 OHSAA
boys bowling Division I individual state champion after
finishing with a total of 709 (207-245-257). Kocher�s total
score is the ninth highest all-time in OHSAA boys bowling state
tournament history. Xenia freshman Evan Adkins finished second
with a total score of 696 and game scores of 248-278-170.
Beavercreek earns second girls
bowling state championship
Beavercreek joined Coldwater as the second school to win two or
more girls bowling state championships after defeating Akron
Coventry on Saturday at the OHSAA Division I girls bowling state
tournament at Wayne Webb�s Columbus Bowl. Beavercreek defeated
Akron Coventry in the state final match 3-2 with scores of
144-147-183-225-185 to Coventry�s 184-152-169-203-142. The first
girls bowling state championship was won by Beavercreek in 2007
and now with its win in 2014, Beavercreek becomes the second
school in girls bowling to win multiple girls bowling state
championships. Coldwater did so after repeating as champions in
2012 and 2013.
Beavercreek won in the first round, semifinals, and championship
by a final score of 3-2. After dropping the first two games to
Akron Coventry in the championship round, Beavercreek won the
next three by scores of 183-225-185 to Coventry�s 169-203-142.
Akron Coventry qualified for the girls state bowling tournament
for the first time in 2014, and along the way to becoming state
runner-up, defeated top seeded Centerville 3-0 in the first
round and Mentor 3-2 in the semifinals.
Centerville sophomore Megan Cook was named the 2014 OHSAA girls
bowling Division I individual state champion with a total score
of 670 and game scores of 221-200-249. It is the first time a
Centerville student-athlete has won an individual state
championship in boys and girls bowling. Mentor senior Ashley
Fortuna finished second with a total score of 657 and game
scores of 215-237-205.
