Tiffin Calvert Makes First State Appearance, Leaves With Gold
DAYTON, Ohio- Winning its first volleyball state championship, Tiffin Calvert topped reigning champion, New Bremen, 3-2 (12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10) Saturday in the OHSAA Division IV championship game at Wright State’s Nutter Center.
 
Ranked No. 13 in the final coaches poll, Calvert was making its first trip to the state tournament. Sophomore Ashlyn Jones led the Senecas with nine kills and 28 digs. Freshman Emma White had 16 assists.  
 
Junior Taylor Paul led the way for New Bremen with 15 kills and senior Abby Thieman aided with 28 assists.
 
No. 3 New Bremen made its second straight state tournament appearance and took home its first state runner-up title.

Division III
 
Versailles Sweeps Independence for Back-to-Back State Titles
DAYTON, Ohio- Versailles swept Independence to take home the state championship title with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) Saturday in the OHSAA Division III championship game at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
 
The No. 18 ranked Tigers had an overall hitting percentage of 65%.
 
Versailles was led by junior Lindsey Winner with 15 kills, followed by senior Kelsey Custenborder with 31 assists.
 
This marks the seventh time the Tigers have advanced to the OHSAA volleyball state tournament and the second state title.
 
Sophomore Grace Smotek posted 14 kills for Independence. Freshman Abby Avila had 19 assists and senior Katie May supported with 12 assists. 
 
The Blue Devils have been in the state tournament twice and took home their first state runner-up trophy.

Parma Heights Holy Name Wins First Volleyball State Championship
 DAYTON, Ohio – Parma Heights Holy Name won its first OHSAA Division II volleyball state championship as the Lady Namers knocked off Columbus Bishop Hartley 3-2 (25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 16-25, 15-6) Saturday at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
 
Ranked third in the final coaches poll, Holy Name was making its second appearance at the state tournament. The Lady Namers had an overall hitting percentage of 55%.
 
Holy Name was led by junior Samantha Snow with 18 kills, while senior Kayla Jarosz had 17 kills and sophomore Abriana Marchetta had 47 assists.
 
Hawks senior Chiamaka Nwokolo collected 19 kills, while senior Kayla Malone had 14. Sophomore Colleen Sweeney collected 43 assists.

Division I
 
Cincinnati Ursuline Academy Shuts Out Parma Padua Franciscan for Seventh State Title
DAYTON, Ohio- Cincinnati Ursuline Academy defeated Parma Padua Franciscan 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-23) Saturday in the OHSAA Division I championship match at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
 
Ranked No. 1 in the final state coaches poll, Ursuline was making its 14th appearance at the state tournament and now has seven titles.
 
Ursuline was led by sophomore Hailey Green in kills with 11, while senior Payton Breissinger had 10 and junior Logan Case had 34 assists.
 
Padua was led by junior Samantha Ott with 11 kills, followed by senior Abby Leigh with 10 kills. After being in Division II in 2017 and defending their title, the Bruins moved to Division I and took home their first Division I runner-up trophy.
