Division II Girls

Coldwater Captures Fourth Girls Bowling State Title, Mechanicsburg’s Hosier Takes Home Individual State Champion Honors
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Coldwater’s girls bowling team captured team state champion honors for the fourth time and Mechanicsburg senior Ally Hosier earned individual state champion honors at the 2017 OHSAA Division II girls bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Friday.
 
Coldwater defeated Willard, 3-0 (227-167-187 to 168-159-148) in the state final match to earn its fourth OHSAA girls bowling state championship, its third since 2013. The Cavaliers finished second in the team qualifying round and advanced to the state final following a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals over Plain City Jonathan Alder and a 3-0 victory over Norton in the semifinal round. Willard was making its first appearance in a girls bowling state tournament, earning state runner-up honors. Willard finished fourth in team qualifying, advancing to the state final by way of a 3-2 quarterfinal victory over Minerva and a 3-1 win in the semifinals over top-seeded Springfield Northwestern.
 
Mechanicsburg senior Ally Hosier earned individual state champion honors, bowling a total score of 656 (233-178-245). Hosier was making her fourth appearance in the Division II girls bowling state tournament, placing 17th as a junior, ninth as a sophomore and 21st as a freshman.
 
The 2017 OHSAA girls and boys bowling state tournaments continue Saturday with the Division II boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Division II Boys

St Marys Memorial Wins First Boys Bowling State Title; Urbana’s Russell Wins Individual State Champion Honors, St. Henry’s Buehler Bowls 300
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — St. Marys Memorial captured its first boys bowling state championship, Urbana senior Luc Russell earned individual state champion honors and St. Henry junior Trey Buehler bowled a 300 in his second game at the 2017 OHSAA Division II boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Saturday.
 
In the team championship round, St. Marys Memorial earned a 3-0 (209-213-268 to 203-130-170) victory over Hillsboro in the state final match. St. Marys Memorial was making its first trip to a boys bowling state tournament and earned state champion honors for the first time in school history. Hillsboro was making its third trip to a boys bowling state tournament, earning state runner-up honors for the first time.
 
Urbana senior Luc Russell bowled a 697 (241-236-220) to earn individual state champion honors. Russell was making his fourth trip to the Division II boys bowling state tournament. St. Henry junior Trey Buehler recorded the first 300 in OHSAA boys bowling state tournament history, scoring a 300 in his second game en route to an eighth place finish with a total score of 637 (167-300-170).
 
The 2017 OHSAA bowling state tournaments continue next week at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl with Division I girls hitting the lanes on Friday and Division I boys taking to the lanes on Saturday.

Division I Girls

Stow-Munroe Falls Captures First Girls Bowling State Title, Columbus Briggs Freshman Dakota Fink Earns Individual State Champion Honors
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Stow-Munroe Falls earned its first girls bowling state championship and Columbus Briggs freshman Dakota Fink captured individual state champion honors at the 2017 OHSAA Division I Girls Bowling State Tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Friday.
 
Stow-Munroe Falls earned a 3-0 (224-211-212 to 216-182-179) victory over Troy in the Division I state final to capture team state champion honors. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the qualifying round, defeating Centerville 3-0 in the quarterfinals and earned a 3-1 win over top-seeded Beavercreek in the semifinals. Stow-Munroe Falls was making its second trip to the Division I girls bowling state tournament all-time. Troy earned state runner-up honors after earning the Division I girls team state championship in 2016.
 
Columbus Briggs Freshman Dakota Fink captured individual state champion honors, finishing with a total score of 677 (248-220-209). Fink is just the second freshman to earn individual state champion honors at a girls bowling state tournament. 2016 Division I girls bowling state champion, Whitehall-Yearling junior Madison Stiffler, finished as individual runner-up with a total score of 659 (212-248-199). Warren G. Harding’s Katelyn Daugherty recorded the top round of the tournament, scoring a 258 in game one while placing sixth overall.
 
The 2017 OHSAA bowling state tournaments conclude on Saturday with the Division I boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Division I Boys

Westerville Central Wins First Boys Bowling State Championship, Cuyahoga Falls’ Moyer Takes Individual State Champion Honors, Records Highest Division I Boys Bowling Single Game
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Westerville Central captured its first OHSAA boys bowling state championship and Cuyahoga Falls junior Justin Moyer earned individual state champion honors while bowling a 298 in his second game, the highest single game score in OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament history at the 2017 OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl on Saturday.
 
In the team championship round final, Westerville Central earned a 3-0 (244-202-226 to 150-182-206) win over Wapakoneta. The Warhawks entered the team championship round as a three-seed and earned a 3-2 quarterfinal victory over Vandalia Butler and a 3-1 semifinal victory over second-seeded Centerville. Wapakoneta finished as Division I state runner-up in 2016 and was making its fourth-consecutive appearance in an OHSAA boys bowling state tournament.
 
Cuyahoga Falls junior Justin Moyer earned individual state champion honors after bowling a 788 (267-298-223). Moyer’s second game score of 298 is the highest single game score in OHSAA Division I boys bowling state tournament history and ties the all division mark for highest single game in OHSAA boys bowling state tournament history.
