SEMIFINAL GAME #1
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio- Columbus Academy (19-0-1) defeated Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame (15-3-2) 6-0 in the first semifinal game of the 2019 OHSAA field hockey state tournament Friday at Upper Arlington High School.
 
Vikings sophomore Gurby Vaziri opened the scoring with the first goal of the day at 12:27 in the first half. Senior Kiersten Thomassey scored the Vikings’ next two goals at 10:18 in the first half and 28:48 in the second half. Senior Abby Yakam scored the fourth goal of the game at 26:13 in the second half while Charlotte Adams scored the fifth goal at 13:48. Junior Sarah Klingerman rounded out the Vikings’ scoring with the sixth and final goal of the game at 3:04 left in the second half.
 
Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame goalie Nichole Bachman had eight saves while Columbus Academy goalie Alex Phelps had one.
 
It marks the 23rd time the Vikings have made it to the OHSAA field hockey state tournament and the 17th time they have made it to the OHSAA field hockey state championship game.

SEMIFINAL GAME #2
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio- Shaker Heights (19-1) defeated Worthington Thomas Worthington (16-2-2) 2-0 in the second semifinal game of the 2019 OHSAA field hockey state tournament Friday at Upper Arlington High School.
 
Raiders junior Maggie Carter brought in the first goal of the game at 18:31 in the first half. The second goal was scored by Raiders junior Eliza Bennett with an assist from senior Lora Clarke at 10:00 in the second half.
 
Thomas Worthington goalie Scarlett Oaks had three saves while Shaker Heights goalie Athena Vadnal had two saves.
 
This marks the 13th time the Raiders have made it to the OHSAA field hockey state tournament and the ninth time they have made it to the OHSAA field hockey state finals.
 

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio- Columbus Academy (20-0-1) defeated Shaker Heights (19-2) 1-0 in the championship game of the 2019 OHSAA Field Hockey tournament Saturday at Upper Arlington High School.
 
The only goal of the game came on a penalty stroke shot by junior Regan Cornelius with 26:12 left in the first half. In addition to scoring the game winning goal, Cornelius had also participated in the OHSAA state cross country meet prior to attending the OHSAA field hockey state championship game.
 
Shaker Heights goalie Athena Vadnal had one save while Columbus Academy goalie Alex Phelps had six saves.
 
It marks the Vikings 17th time they have made it to the OHSAA Field Hockey state championship game and their 12th state championship overall.
 
This was the 13th time Shaker Heights has made it to the state finals and their eighth time as state-runners up.
