Division I State Championship Game

St. Xavier Outlasts St. Ignatius 12-6 in Title Game

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2025 OHSAA Division I Boys State Championship game pitted Cincinnati St. Xavier against Cleveland St. Ignatius with St. Xavier utilizing eight second-half goals to coast to a 12-6 win at Historic Crew Stadium on Sunday.

St. Xavier junior Daniel Vollmer started the scoring with 8:15 remaining in the first quarter to give the Bombers an early 1-0 lead.

St. Ignatius (15-7) pulled even with 58 seconds remaining in the first quarter before St. Xavier junior Ryder Munz responded in less than 40 seconds to retake the lead at the close of the quarter.

The second quarter mimicked the first with St. Ignatius drawing even before two St. Xavier (19-2) goals gave them a 4-2 lead at the half.

Defense was stout in the opening frames with St. Ignatius senior goaltender Freddy Webster turning aside six shots and St. Xavier senior goaltender Trent Yelton making five saves. They finished the contest with seven saves each.

St. Ignatius junior Henry Ferguson scored with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter to draw within one, but a six-goal scoring run from St. Xavier, featuring two goals a piece from Bomber seniors DJ Wojciechowski and Brian O’Connor II, created a seven-goal lead for St. Xavier.

Two late goals from St. Ignatius weren’t enough as St. Xavier was able to hold on to win its second OHSAA state title (2018), 12-6.

The St. Xavier offense was led by Wojciechowski who scored three goals and chipped in two assists, while seniors Bryce Allen and Henry Ferguson led the way for St. Ignatius with two goals each.

St. Xavier was making its seventh OHSAA state tournament appearance, and St. Ignatius was making its sixth OHSAA state tournament appearance.

 

Division II State Championship Game

Bishop Watterson Claims First OHSAA State Title Over Wooster

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus Bishop Watterson was able to hold off a third quarter push from Wooster to win the 2025 OHSAA Division II Boys Lacrosse Championship, 9-7, at Historic Crew Stadium on Sunday.

Watterson junior Drew Dunlap started the scoring with two goals in the first five minutes of play which helped propel the Eagles to a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Back-to-back goals from Wooster seniors Liam Harwood and Charlie Williams cut the Watterson lead to two, but Watterson senior Marcus Dixon scored in the final minute of the half to extend the lead to 6-3 at the break.

Wooster (18-3) outscored Watterson (14-6) 2-0 in the third quarter with goals coming from Harwood and freshman Jack Thomas to make it 6-5. Wooster junior goalie Liam Ozar turned away three shots in the quarter and finished the game with nine saves.

Watterson was able to score twice in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to make the score 8-5. Junior Ryan Grim scored the first followed by Dunlap netting his third goal of the contest.

Watterson and Wooster traded goals to make the score 9-6 before a Wooster goal in the final minute settled the score, 9-7.

Wooster’s offense was led by junior Drew Thomas with two goals and two assists, and Harwood with two goals and an assist.

Watterson’s offense was driven by four goals from Dunlap as well as a goal and three assists from junior Luke Ishmael.

Freshman goaltender Kolt Rundio saved five shots in the contest for Watterson.

Wooster was making its first OHSAA state tournament appearance, while Watterson was making its third OHSAA state tournament appearance and claimed its first ever OHSAA boys lacrosse title.
