Girls Division I
Upper Arlington Wins First State Title in Second State Tournament Appearance
COLUMBUS, Ohio - After a scoreless first half, Upper Arlington claimed its first girls soccer state title in school history with a 1-0 victory over Cincinnati Seton Saturday night in the Division I state championship game at Historic Crew Stadium.
This was Upper Arlington's second appearance in the state tournament (2008). This was Seton’s fourth appearance in the state tournament.
Upper Arlington senior midfielder Sophie Khelashvili scored at the 62nd minute of play off a penalty kick to put the Bears up 1-0 over Seton. Junior goalkeeper Alina Montero played the entire 80 minutes and had four saves.
Upper Arlington had five corner kicks to Seton’s four. Both teams had four shots on goal.
This was Upper Arlington's second appearance in the state semifinal. The first being in 2008, where its season ended in the regional tournament.
Girls Division II
Whitehouse Anthony Wayne Wins First State Title with a Hat Trick
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Whitehouse Anthony Wayne claimed its first state title in school history after defeating Hudson 3-2 in the 2025 OHSAA Girls Division II State Championship game at Historic Crew Stadium.
Anthony Wayne senior midfielder Lydia Smucker had a hat trick by scoring all three of Anthony Wayne’s goals. The first in the eighth minute of play Smucker scored at the bottom center of the goal to put the Generals up 1-0. Nine minutes later Smucker scored again off a corner kick to bring the Generals up 2-0. Hudson retaliated in the 37th minute of play by sophomore midfielder Hannah Meese, decreasing the deficit to be 2-1.
Smucker's final goal to complete her hat trick was seven minutes after halftime scored at the bottom right corner leading the Generals 3-1.
Hudson senior defender Chloe Bigham scored at the 66th minute of play, resulting in the final score being 3-2.
This was Anthony Wayne's fourth appearance in the state semifinals (2025, 2021, and 2020) The first year in 2019 where they ended their season as state runners-up.
Anthony Wayne senior goalkeeper Katie Carr played the entire 80 minutes and had a total of nine saves.
Girls Division III
Bay Village Bay Takes Home Second-Consecutive State Title
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bay Village Bay claimed its fifth soccer state title and second consecutive after defeating Hamilton Badin 1-0 in the 2025 OHSAA Girls Division III State Championship game at Historic Crew Stadium.
Bay freshman forward Meg Webster delivered a strike in the 10th minute of play to put the Rockets 1-0 over Badin. Junior goalkeeper Olivia Ruma played 40 minutes, having three saves and zero goals allowed.
Badin junior defender Danielle Birri, senior forward Braelyn Even, and sophomore forward Bella McFarland each took shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Blake Sakach played a full 80 minutes and had one save.
This was Bay's 10th appearance in the state semifinals. Five years have resulted in state championships (2025, 2024, 2003, 2002, 1999) and one year state runner-up (2018).
Girls Division IV
Cincinnati Summit Country Day Rides Strong Second Half to Title
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cincinnati Summit Country Day scored four second-half goals to defeat Gahanna Columbus Academy 4-0 in the Division IV girls state final, capturing its third-consecutive state title on Nov. 7 at Historic Crew Stadium.
Summit Country Day outshot Columbus Academy 23-0 and had four corner kicks to none for Columbus Academy.
After a scoreless first half, Summit Country Day wasted little time breaking the tie. Senior forward Carolyn Federle scored just 14 seconds into the second half. Three minutes later, freshman forward Aubrey Blakely found the net, assisted by Mia Stevens, giving the Silver Knights a 2-0 lead.
Stevens, a senior midfielder, added two more goals in the 55th and 75th minutes to seal the victory for Summit Country Day.
Columbus Academy senior goalkeeper Taylor Gillett made six saves.
Summit Country Day’s win marks its sixth state championship, moving the school into second place for most girls soccer titles in state history.
Columbus Academy, making its third state tournament appearance, finished as runner-up for the first time in school history.
Girls Division V
Cincinnati Madeira tops Doylestown Chippewa in the Girls Division V State Championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a rematch of last year’s state final, Cincinnati Madeira earned a 3-0 win over Doylestown Chippewa, capturing the Division V girls state championship at Historic Crew Stadium.
Madeira (18-4-1) claimed its third girls soccer state title in school history and its second in a row. Chippewa (22-2-0) finished runner-up for the fourth time (2005, 2015, 2024).
In the 13th minute, Olivia Naegeli scored the first goal for Madeira, assisted by Natasha Davis. In the 28th minute, Davis added a second goal for Madeira.
Madeira midfielder Tessa Combs extended the Amazons lead to 3-0 in the 72nd minute of play. Madeira goalkeeper Makayla Davenport played all 80 minutes and had two saves to keep Chippewa off the board.
Madeira outshot Chippewa 10-5 and had three corner kicks to Chippewa’s two.
Boys Division I
Dublin Jerome wins first state title in penalty-kick shootout
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dublin Jerome junior Sean Dempsey scored in the seventh round of penalty kicks to give the Celtics a 3-2 victory over Cleveland St. Ignatius in the Division I boys soccer state championship Nov. 10 at Historic Crew Stadium.
Jerome (15-3-5) was making its fourth state tournament appearance and first trip to the state final.
St. Ignatius was making its 12th consecutive state tournament appearance and 21st overall. The Wildcats (18-1-2) had won the previous six state titles.
St. Ignatius got on the board first in the 27th minute with a goal from senior Nathan Gray, assisted by junior Matthew Smith. St. Ignatius held an 11-3 shot advantage over Jerome at halftime.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Jerome senior defender Brady Delmore headed in a goal off a corner kick from senior Crew Maust to tie it 1-1. Then, in the 46th minute, Delmore struck again on a cross from Maust to give Jerome its first lead of the match.
St. Ignatius responded in the 71st minute, when senior Sammy Trivisonno buried a shot from the right side of the box into the top of the net to tie it 2-2 and send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime period, St. Ignatius registered three shots to Jerome’s none, but the best scoring chance came when Delmore appeared to score the game-winning goal for Jerome before it was waved off for offside.
The second overtime period saw 10 total shots, with St. Ignatius holding a 6-4 edge, but neither team could find the winner, sending the match to penalty kicks.
St. Ignatius shot first in the shootout and took a 3-1 lead after its fourth attempt, but a save by goalkeeper Mason Jestice, sandwiched between goals from Delmore and junior Jacob Dahi, extended the shootout.
After the sixth round ended scoreless, Jestice made another save, and Dempsey converted his kick to send the Celtics home as state champions for the first time in school history.
Jestice finished with nine saves, while St. Ignatius junior goalkeeper Johnny Mulloy made four.
The Wildcats outshot the Celtics 27-14 and held an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal. St. Ignatius finished with nine corner kicks to Jerome’s eight.
It was the second meeting between the schools this season, St. Ignatius defeated Jerome 2-1 on Oct. 11.
Boys Division II
Avon secures its first state title with a win over Kings Mills Kings in the Boys Division II State Championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Avon captured its first state title with a 1-0 overtime win over Kings Mills Kings in the boys Division II state championship.
This was Avon’s first appearance the in the state championship match after making the state semifinals in 2021. Avon caps off the 2025 season with a 17-2-3 record.
This year also marked the first time Kings reached the championship match since its last appearance in 1995. The Knights finished the 2025 season with a record of 15-3-5.
Kings’ goalkeeper Brody Sucher made four saves in the overtime period, totaling five in the match overall. Kings tallied eight shots throughout the match.
In the 89th minute, Avon’s Brock Harmon used his shoulder to get a touch that led to his game-winning goal. Avon finished the game with 10 shots. Goalkeeper Oliver Dobrovic tallied two saves throughout the match.
Boys Division III
Columbus Bishop Watterson Wins First Title in Boys Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus Bishop Watterson rode a strong first half to defeat Aurora 3-0 in the snow in the Division III boys state championship Nov. 9 at Historic Crew Stadium.
The Eagles netted two first-half goals — the first from senior Alex Das in the 22nd minute and the second from senior Max Meacham in the 35th.
The match remained 2-0 for the next 36 minutes until senior Michael Quinn, assisted by Meacham, sealed the win with a goal that made it 3-0.
Bishop Watterson outshot Aurora 15-10 overall and 9-5 on goal, while Aurora held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aedan Richardson recorded five saves for Bishop Watterson. Aurora junior Joe Fielding and senior Bryce Peckinpaugh split time in goal, each making three saves.
Bishop Watterson was making its second appearance in a state final after finishing as runner-up in 2013. Aurora was making its first appearance in a state championship match and its third overall in the state tournament.
Boys Division IV
Worthington Christian Rides Late Heroics to Claim Fourth State Title
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Worthington Christian scored less than five minutes into overtime to defeat Bay Village Bay 2-1 in the snow in the Division IV boys soccer state championship Nov. 9 at Historic Crew Stadium.
Worthington Christian (19-3-2) made its third straight appearance in the state final and 15th overall. The Warriors, runners-up the past two seasons, captured their fourth state title.
This was Bay’s ninth state championship appearance and seventh runner-up finish. The Rockets, just one year removed from a three-win season, finished 20-3-2.
The game remained scoreless until the 78th minute, when Bay junior Andrew Starnes found the back of the net off a pass from junior Brogan Wynocker.
Less than a minute later, with under two minutes remaining in regulation, Worthington Christian sophomore Nolan Schoonover lofted a left-footed shot from wide of the box that deflected off the post and in to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In the fifth minute of overtime, Schoonover found senior forward Max Glick, who buried the game-winner into the top of the net to give Worthington Christian the state championship.
Worthington Christian senior goalkeeper Ethan Reale made one save, while Bay junior goalkeeper Logan Jennrich stopped four.
The Warriors outshot the Rockets 10-4 and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Bay finished with five corner kicks to Worthington Christian’s four.
Boys Division V
Summit Country Day Wins Back-to-Back State Titles
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cincinnati Summit Country Day defeated Toledo Ottawa Hills 5-1 in the Division V boys soccer state championship Nov. 10 at Historic Crew Stadium.
Summit Country Day junior Carter Lund scored twice in the 20th minute to give the Silver Knights an early 2-0 lead. The goals came 27 seconds apart and were assisted by junior Elijah Warner and senior Johnny Bacca, respectively.
Sophomore Forrest Cloran added the third goal, taking a pass from senior Tyler Lammers outside the box and sending a left-footed shot off the post and in to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Silver Knights scored twice more in the second half. Lund completed his hat trick on an assist from sophomore Max Stevens, and sophomore Isaiah Rodgers added the final goal off a pass from senior Lucas Volk.
Lund’s three goals are tied for the second most in a boys soccer state championship game, behind former Silver Knight Sam Martin, who scored four against Kidron Central Christian in 2016.
Ottawa Hills broke through in the 74th minute when sophomore Ibraheem Alaani converted a free kick into the upper right corner.
Ottawa Hills sophomore goalkeeper Burke Pfeiffer made eight saves, while Summit Country Day senior Clemente Volk recorded one. The Silver Knights held a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Ottawa Hills (12-10-2) made its eighth state tournament appearance and finished as runner-up for the third time. Summit Country Day (12-6-6) made its 10th state tournament appearance and claimed its ninth state title.
