Brecksville-Broadview Heights Wins 20th Consecutive Gymnastics Team Title
 
HILLIARD, Ohio – Brecksville-Broadview Heights and Delaware Olentangy Berlin locked up in the closest OHSAA gymnastics team state tournament since 2009, but it was the Bees of Brecksville that came out on top for the 20th-consecutive year and 24th overall.
 
Brecksville totaled a 148.825, while Berlin finished as state runner-up for the first time with a team score of 148.050. The 0.775 margin of victory was the closest state tournament since Brecksville defeated Rocky River Magnificat by 0.125 points in 2009.
 
Brecksville’s point total is the third-highest in OHSAA state tournament history, while Berlin’s runner-up point total is the ninth-best.
 
Brecksville’s 37.850 on vault was the best of the state tournament in that event, while Berlin’s 37.950 on floor and 36.825 on uneven parallel bars were the best of the night in those two events.
 
Brecksville sophomore Gianna Ravagnani competed in all four events and scored a 9.725 on vault and 9.525 on floor to pace the Bees in both events.
 
Berlin freshman Tayten Swain also competed in all four events and led the Bears in three events, including the vault (9.625), uneven bars (9.300) and floor (9.775).  
 
Brunswick’s team score of 36.825 on the balance beam was the best of the night on that event.
 
Individual Competition
Parma Padua Franciscan Tessa Brousek Wins State Tournament All-Around Competition
HILLIARD, Ohio – Parma Padua Franciscan sophomore Tessa Brousek earned all-around honors at the 2023 OHSAA Gymnastics State Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Hilliard Bradley High School.
 
Brousek recorded four top-three finishes in the individual competition, taking second in uneven parallel bars (9.475), second in floor exercise (9.675) and third in balance beam (9.525). She also tied for second in vault (9.825). The sophomore totaled 38.5 points through all four events.
 
Deleware Olentangy Berlin freshman Tayten Swain finished second in the all-around with 38.275 total points. Swain finished first in the floor exercise (9.725), tied for third in the vault (9.825) and received third in uneven parallel bars (9.43).
 
Brunswick sophomore Bree Vargo finished third in the all-around with 38.10 total points. Vargo won the balance beam (9.625). Brecksville Broadview-Heights sophomore Gianna Ravagnani finished first in the vault (9.85) and Rocky River Magnificat junior Keira Leneghan finished first in the uneven parallel bars (9.525).
